BOTOX® injections can also be effectively used to treat this social inconvenience, avoiding the need for major surgery. It takes about 10-30 minutes to perform the injection depending on site, with no down time. Results vary but generally last 6 months.

It is reassuring that anecdotal evidence suggests that repeat treatments may have a permanent effect in reducing sweat activity.

Are BOTOX® injections painful?
Most patients find that the injections only cause a mild sting lasting seconds. A topical numbing cream may be applied prior to the injection for a more comfortable treatment experience.

How long does BOTOX® last?
Good results can usually be obtained after a single injection. This effect generally lasts between 3 - 6 months, depending on the initial skin condition and area treated. Repeat treatments are usually needed approximately every 3-6 months over a 12 month period. It is encouraging to note that clinical trials report that some patients who have had treatment over 12 months only require further treatments once or twice the following year.

What are the side effects of BOTOX®?
Temporary bruising is the most common side effect. In some cases, the toxin can migrate and cause the temporary weakness of nearby muscles. In rare cases, there can be drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression. The risk of any side effect depends on the muscles injected. Your physician will discuss this with you in length before your treatment. Because the effects of Botox® are reversible, any side effects are usually temporary, lasting only a few weeks.

Is BOTOX® safe?
BOTOX® has an excellent safety profile. The doses of botulinum toxin used in aesthetic applications are very small and the risks of adverse effects related to its mechanism of action are consequently low. The procedure can be performed in a clinical setting with a high degree of safety and minimal discomfort.
